​                                   Add a Milawa cheese platter and a couple of Prosecco Piccolos in an easy ice cooled back pack for $45


Grab a bike and visit cellar doors, local producers, breweries and drop into a cafe or restaurant for a coffee and a refuel along the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail. Simply cycle at your own pace whilst sampling and collecting goodies from vineyards, brewery, cafes and providores. Stop to sample wine or local produce and meet the locals who helped to grow and make it.​

Choose your start location…

  • Wangaratta: hop into River Tribes Troopy for a transfer up to Beechworth; or
  • Beechworth: start at the top of Beechworth and get a transfer back to Beechworth when you are ready;


Taste honey, eat food, scream for ice cream and sample beer…

  • Explore and taste producers like:
  • Beechworth Honey (31 Ford Street);
  • Bridge Road Brewers (50 Ford Street);
  • Beechworth Sweet shop (7 Camp Street);
  • Hop into Project 49 (46 Ford Street) and pick up a picnic made up of Italian bits n bobs (lunch also available) or stop and grab lunch at one of the many great eateries such as these (recommended):
  • Pedlar (40 Ford Street);
  • Beechworth Provender (18 Camp Street);
  • Beechworth Pantry (77 Ford Street)
  • The Ox and Hound (52 Ford Street);
  • The Squid (31 Camp Street); and
  • Beechworth Ice creamery.


Visit wineries…

  • Eldorado Road, 45-48 Ford Street. Opens 11am Friday to Sunday.
  • Haldon Estate Wines, 59 Havelock Rd. Opens 11am Saturday to Sunday.
  • Pennyweight Winery (13 Pennyweight Lane/also off the trail). Opens 10am Saturday and Sunday.
  • Amulet and Indigo Vineyards are only available on the road not on the trail [Beechworth Wangaratta Road]), Optional upgrade: ask your guide to stop on the way past if he has time and you can upgrade your tour by 1 hour for $69.


Worth a look…

  • Lake Sambell and the Chinese Gardens.
  • Beechworth Goal, Burke Museum and the Courthouse.
  • Lots of great shops and boutique offerings down the main streets.


Cycle downhill…

  • From Beechworth cycle downhill along the rail trail past little creeks, distant hills and gums tree dotted fields of cows and sheep
  • Pull into Pennyweight winery (about 20 minutes down the rail trail from Beechworth) and taste the spectacular wines from the bio-dynamic vineyard (postage options are available for any purchases). 
  • Leaving Pennyweight behind continue downhill, maybe you take your feet off the pedals as the wind blows past you, you could put the break on or you could try to get up to 40km hour as you travel down the trail.
  • If you brought a picnic stop and picnic under a tree, with a view, enjoy the stillness, company and food.
  • Back on the trail for more downhill fun, pull up at Everton or Tarrawingee station for a rest and a drink.
  • Hop back on the pedals and head to Wangaratta (another 20km) along the flatter part of the rail trail, here you will pedal past many fields, cows, sheep and Australian native birds n bees.


Stop cycling - pick up locations...

Jelly legs, time to depart the trail. Call your tour tour guide and they will pick you up and take you to your destination (allow 15 minutes). Nominated departure points are:

  • Everton Train Station (located on the trail); or
  • Tarrawingee train station (located on the trail;


For guests departing from Wangaratta and not making it to Everton or Tarrawingee and needing a lift from Beechworth back to Wangaratta:

  • Upgrade for $15/guest minimum 2.

For guests departing from Beechworth returning to Beechworth and cycling past Tarrawingee.

  • Upgrade for $15/guest minimum 2.​

Departing Wangaratta for Milawa and return Wangaratta $79/bike (30km to 50km depending on route) min 2 persons

​                                    including one way shuttle service between Wangaratta and Milawa.

Simply cycle at your own pace whilst sampling and collecting goodies from farm ates, cafes and providores. Stop to sample wine or local produce and meet the locals who helped to grow and make it.


Suggested itinerary:

  • Starting in Wangaratta head South along the flat rail trail. Pass by fields, cows and a small lavander farm
  • Arrive at Sam Mirandah winery and stop for a refreshing sample of whites and reds. Consider stopping for lunch? to early? keep going...
  • Pop into John Gehrigs in Oxley and peruse the menu of wines. We like the dry and unsweetened Riesling but its all good here.
  • Just round the corner is Oxley Estate, try the sweet wine after sampling the whites and reds - mmm feeling hungry by now...
  • Cyle to Milawa past more cows, fields and an old brick 3 storey barn.
  • Turn right to Brown Brothers, mayabe stop for a 2 or 3 course lunch with matched wine before sampling the extensive wine tasting menu. Stock up on Brown Brothers produce of jams and other treats?
  •  Just 2 minutes up the road pop into Milawa Mustards and sampe the amazing mustards from Honey to Rosemary to chilli and more.
  • Next door is the olive and gift shop... mmm olives.
  • Cycle up the road to Milawa Cheese Company and Wood Park wines. After sampling and a few purchases maybe have a sweet treat or a coffee before heading back to Wangaratta or calling River Tribe for a shuttle.
