More than 50 vineyards, producers, cafes and restaurants are available and dotted throughout Milawa, Beechworth, King Valley and the Rutherglen areas. River Tribe Adventures can help you have a great day visiting them and will provide everything you need for an easy day or half day out. River Tribe provides an experienced tour guide, a great vehicle and a ton of knowledge of the area. You can visit a few or do them all, you may want to stop for a spot of lunch, go fast, go slow… it is up to you.
River Tribe is here to provide advice and you make it up as you go by discussing your taste with your tour guide or if you want, ask for a set itinerary. If you want lunch, River Tribe can book this for you, just let the team know when booking and they will do the leg work for you. A popular thing to do is ask your driver to suggest the best wineries and producers and then you can visit them as you go, it is a very flexible and easy going day, there are no limits on the amount of cellar doors and producers that you can visit and the time is easily extended if you want more.

BEECHWORTH OR MILAWA OR BOTH - AVAILABLE NOW
Beechworths’ historic wine region has some very boutique offerings and very high standards. You will find some excellent wines here, the first vines were planted in 1856 and the first wine shop was opened ten years later. The mineral rich hills around Beechworth are home to more than a dozen vineyards and all tended by winegrowing families. The hillside winegrowing region with a range of altitudes and different topographical aspects provide for premium production of several grape varieties.
Some of Australia's best chardonnay is grown in Beechworth – the most acclaimed being Giaconda. The region also produces renowned pinot noir and other cool-climate varietals. Visit cellar doors and sample the best of the region with stunning backdrops and views out to the Warby Ranges, Eldorado ranges and Everton hills. Beechworth has high quality eateries and booking ahead is recommended.
Beechworth is known for its small wineries that produce well balanced and considered wines. The following boutique options are available: Amulet wines, Haldon wines, Pennyweight wines, Indigo wines and you can linger over lunch at the Green Shed Bistro or maybe the best pizza for 200km at Bridge Road Brewers.
Guests can travel further afield to Milawa (about 15 minutes from amulet and indigo wines). Milawa has a great selection of producers, wineries and eateries. Well known for Milawa Cheese Company, Brown Brothers, Milawa Mustards, Sam Miranda and plenty of other wineries and producers to taste your way around.
Milawa is suited to the growing of crisp white wines and savoury, spicy reds however many of the vineyards here have an amazing array of wines from sweet wines such the Botrytis Riesling (a bit of a fav of ours) to medium body all the way through to full body palate busters like Durif (such a great varietal). Views of the king river, vineyards and in the distance a glimpse of Mt Buffalo and surrounding mountains, bushland & the odd Kangaroo and Echidna.
You can taste your way around this great wine region with ease as your tour guide provides everything you need for a day out. Typical Milawa itinerary options may include Sam Miranda winery, Brown Brothers winery, Oxley Winery, Milawa Cheese Company, Milawa Mustards, The Olive Shop, John Gehrig winery, Wood Park winery and Markwood Estate. KING VALLEY AND MILAWA - AVAILABLE NOW
The King Valley has the best of everything. Great views, waterfalls, mouth-watering food, prosecco and a stunning selection of whites and reds. The King Valley and Milawa has more than 30 vineyards, producers and cafes/restaurants to visit. The area is well known for the Italian varieties of Prosecco, Nebbiolo, Sangiovese, Pinot Grigio, Dolcetto, Arneis and Barbera to name a few. Wine tasters can visit a great range including (but not limited to): La Cantina, Chrismont Wines, Gracebrook, Dal Zotto, Pizzini, Symphonia, Darling Estate, Polotini & Redbank, Francesco Wines, Chrismont Wines and Ciavarella Oxley Estate Winery to name just a few.
Milawa has the fantastic Milawa Cheese Company, Wood Park Wines, Milawa Mustards, Milawa Olive shop, Brown Brothers, Ciavarella Oxley Estate Winery, Rose Hill, Gehrig Wines and Sam Miranda, Hurdle Creek Gin - yes gin, its great; and a few others found on route. All provide free tastings and offer a healthy yet considered range.
RUTHERGLEN - AVAILABLE NOW
Rutherglen... well established, historic and well known for big reds and fortified wines. With many big wineries and fantastic eateries to choose from this makes for a great tour. Rutherglen has a broad range of varieties however Duriff, Cabernet and Shiraz grow well in the hot and dry climate and present well in the glass and better on the tongue. Rutherglen boasts more than twenty wineries spanning 150 years. Fortified wines are world-class here: Port and Tokay are great however Rutherglen is also well known for its Muscat.
Typical itinerary options include (but not limited to): All Saints, Pfieffer vineyards, Chambers, Campbells, St Leonards, Stanton & Killeen, Valhalla, Scion, Morris, Cofield, Anderson, Rutherglen Estates, Lake Moodemere, Lilliput & Jones and many many more! Enjoy country views of flat and gently undulating farm land and gum trees adjoining the Murray River. You can taste your way around this wine region with ease as all wineries are very close to Rutherglen with the furthest being only 15 minutes away. This tour will run the second weekend of every month. The guided tour will be in either the Troopy or the BMW or VW depending on numbers. Departing and pick ups/drop off in Wangaratta and Beechworth. Guests return at about 4:30pm in Beechworth and 5pm in Wangaratta.
INCLUSIONS, INFORMATION AND ADDITIONAL OPTIONS
Lunch... Most guests love to stop at one of the eateries on route. Your guide is happy to take in the scenery whilst you feast. There are some great options. If you have researched and booked lunch please provide the time of your lunch booking to your guide and River Tribe will work this into your day.
If you want a little guidance… River Tribe enjoy lunch at Bridge Road Brewers in Beechworth. In the King Valley lunch at Gracebrook, Chrismont or Dalzotto. In Milawa… King River Café is Australian Bistro fusion or Brown Brothers is a popular spot with a 2 and 3 course options being about $60-$70 per person and with matched wines this makes for a special treat. There are plenty of other options on route. Please call if you would like to discuss.
Distances... Beechworth to Milawa is about 15-20 minutes and Milawa to King Valley is about 20 minutes. Wangaratta to Rutherglen is 35 minutes. Bright to Milawa or Beechworth is about 50 minutes.
